Not a Love Story is Ram Gopal Varma's reimagining of the murder of TV executive Neeraj Grover that shook the nation. Anusha Chawla (Mahie Gill) and Robin Fernandes (Deepak Dobriyal) play the protagonists of this "love story" that is more of an insight into criminal psychology as two otherwise ordinary people murder Ashish Bhatnagar (Ajay Gehi), cut his body into pieces and burn it up in the jungle. The heinous crime that these two commit forms the core of this movie, and while it is not a biopic it does offer viewers the chance to peer into the mind of an ordinary couple that found themselves mired in a rather extraordinary situation.

Anusha is marching down the streets of Mumbai, keen to prove her mettle and get a chance at making it large on the silver screen. Somewhere along the line she gets involved with Ashish despite already being in a committed relationship with Robin. All hell breaks loose when Robin lands up one fine morning in Anusha's apartment only to find Ashish already present over there.
